Upon first entering the Teyvat continent, players assumed the role of an alien, and the hero-rescue drama began as they rescued Pam from drowning in the sea. In the 1.0 update, two initial maps, Mu Tian and Liyue, were introduced, along with the main story chapters in Mu Tian and the first two chapters of Liyue. The overall puzzle difficulty was relatively low.
Released characters included Li Xiangling, Lei Zhe, Ambrose, Fisheal, Bennett, Noel, and four other 4-star characters, totaling 14, along with five 5-star characters. Li Xiangling was the most used character, helping players gradually learn to explore the vast world, use the wind wings, and apply elemental reactions. The opening PV of Wen Di, “The Four Winds,” gave birth to the meme “Do Something Important, Bahbat.”
1.1 Update
Release Date: November 11, 2020
This update did not introduce new map areas but updated the final chapter of Liyue’s main storyline. Zhongli revealed that the Rokugan was locked, setting the stage for future events. Four new characters, Dazhailia, Zhongli, Dioona, and Xinyan, were introduced. Two handsome heroes, Chizun, earned this update a perfect score!
1.2 Update

The 1.2 update brought the first map update, with the Dragon脊 Mountain making its debut, connecting the northwest ruins of Liyue’s Mingyun Town to the northwest valley of Mu Tian’s Dadaupah Valley. The system for暴风雪 weather was also introduced. Aabedo and Gan Shi made their debut, with the storyline focusing on Aabedo’s legend task “Cretaceous Chapter.” The 1.2 update added a touch of mystery to the game.
1.3 Update

Though no new map areas were introduced, the 1.3 update saw the introduction of Liyue’s first major holiday, Sea Lantern Festival. Players could meet Din and unlock Xigong’s legend task in “We Will Meet Again.” The version was also popular for the meme “Did You Know You Play Genshin Impact?”
1.4 Update
Release Date: March 17, 2021
The 1.4 update introduced the Wind and Flower Festival in Mu Tian, with the main storyline revealing secrets about Kanreia in “We Will Meet Again.” This version first introduced four characters’ invitation events, featuring Barbara, Noel, Zhongyun, and Bennett. The meme “We Will Meet Again, Farewell at the End of the Road” has been widely referenced.
1.5 Update
Release Date: April 28, 2021
The 1.5 update introduced the “Dust and Song Pot” system, with new 5-star character You La and 4-star character Yin Hui making their debut. Zhongli’s legend task second chapter and You La’s legend task first chapter were also released. The version also introduced the “Dust and Song Pot” home system, allowing players to refurbish their celestial environments and create their own homes. The meme “I Forgot to Turn Off the Gas in My Dust and Song Pot” has been widely shared by players.
1.6 Update
Release Date: June 9, 2021
This update introduced the new Golden Apple Archipelago map, allowing players to use ships as transportation for the first time. The main storyline entered its second chapter, officially titled “Chrysanthemum Autumn Wind Asking Red Leaves.” Information about Rokugan was revealed through the new character Feng Yuan Wanyao.
